One Year by Candlelight: The Story of Mystic Pages & Tea
From the Candle’s Glow
A year ago, I lit a candle and opened a door. I had no idea where it would lead. On September 11, 2025, Mystic Pages & Tea became a real little corner of the internet. No hundreds of posts waited in its archives. No familiar series, no traditions, or no rhythm to the seasons here yet. There was simply an idea. I wanted somewhere to write. Somewhere books and spirituality could sit beside one another. Somewhere we could talk about the moon and the weather, mythology, old trees and changing seasons. Somewhere a cup of tea could be more than a drink and autumn could be more than a date on the calendar. I wanted to create the kind of place I would want to find when I needed somewhere quiet to wander. So I began, and somehow, an entire year passed.
The Place That Grew Around Me
The strange thing about creating something is that eventually, it begins creating you, too. When I started Mystic Pages & Tea, I thought I understood what it would become, but I didn't. Over the past year, we have followed moons across the sky and seasons across the earth. We have wandered through astrology, folklore, spirituality, books, ancient deities, animal messengers, weather, trees, rituals, numerology, and all the strange little mysteries that make me stop and wonder. We've watched winter surrender to spring. We've listened to thunderstorms. We've stood beside oceans. We've looked for messages in feathers, birds, numbers, dreams, and unexpected encounters. We've talked about beginnings. We've talked about endings. Somewhere between all of those things, we began talking about becoming. Becoming may be the word that best describes this first year. Mystic Pages & Tea didn't simply become something. I did, too.
The Words Between the Seasons
Some posts were planned weeks in advance. Others arrived because something happened and I couldn't stop thinking about it. Some began with research. Some began with a question. Some began with an animal crossing my path, a number appearing at exactly the right moment, a storm moving across the sky, an old memory resurfacing, or the peculiar feeling that I needed to write something down. Those may have been the most important ones.
Writing here reminded me that we don't always have to know what something means while we're living through it. Sometimes understanding arrives later. Sometimes years later. Sometimes we have to return to an old version of ourselves with softer eyes before we can understand why she made the choices she did. I've spent much of this year returning to memories, old dreams, abandoned pieces of myself, and things I once thought I had outgrown, and somewhere along the way, I began realizing that returning isn't always the same as going backward. Sometimes returning is how we finally move forward.
The People on the Other Side of the Page
Another part of this anniversary matters deeply to me. You, the reader. Writing online can be strange. Most of the time, I sit somewhere with my thoughts, type words onto a screen, choose an image, press publish, and send those words out into a world I cannot see. Then someone opens them, someone reads, and someone comes back.
Maybe you have been here since the beginning. Maybe you found Mystic Pages & Tea somewhere in the middle of this first year. Maybe this is the first thing you've ever read here. However you arrived, thank you. Thank you for opening the emails. Thank you for reading the long posts. Thank you for wandering through the strange subjects that capture my curiosity. Thank you for allowing me to write about things that don't always fit neatly into one category. Thank you for giving my words somewhere to land. Every writer hopes that somewhere on the other side of the page is a person who understands what they were trying to say. Knowing that some of you continue returning means more than you probably realize.
The Little World We Built
I sometimes imagine Mystic Pages & Tea as a place that exists somewhere beyond the screen. There is an old house at the edge of the woods. The windows glow warmly after sunset. Books fill the shelves. A kettle is always beginning to whistle. Muddy boots sit beside the door because someone has just returned from wandering through the trees. Pressed leaves have somehow found their way between the pages of books. A moon calendar is probably hanging somewhere. Something is baking in the kitchen. There is always another chair at the table.
Outside, the seasons keep changing. Inside, we notice them. That is what I hope this space has become. Not simply a blog. A place to notice, a place to wonder, a place to remember that ordinary life is filled with things worth paying attention to, a place where we can talk about the visible world and the invisible one, and a place where we can become curious again.
What Comes After One Year?
There will be more stories, more seasons, more wandering, more cups of tea forgotten beside my keyboard, more nights looking toward the moon, more animals appearing at strangely appropriate moments, more old myths, more trees, more weather, more questions I don't know the answers to yet, and more writing. Especially more writing. Year Two will be different, too. I can feel that already. Mystic Pages & Tea is no longer simply an idea I'm trying to figure out. It has roots now. It has a voice. It has traditions. It has a history. Most importantly, it has people who return.
I don't know exactly what this next year will bring. For once, I don't think I need to. There is something beautiful about standing at the beginning of another season without knowing exactly how it will unfold. A year ago, I opened a door. Today, I begin walking through another. Maybe that is what this place has been teaching me all along. We are never finished becoming.
The Glow We Carry Forward
If you've been here all year, thank you for growing alongside me. If you've only recently arrived, welcome. There is plenty of tea, there are plenty of stories, and there will always be another season waiting beyond the window. One year ago, Mystic Pages & Tea began with an idea. Today, it feels like a place. Maybe that is the greatest gift this first year has given me—the realization that a place doesn't have to exist between four walls to become somewhere we belong. Sometimes, a place is made from words. From stories shared between people who may never sit across the same table. From the small act of returning again and again because something here makes us feel a little more curious, a little more understood, or a little less alone in our wondering.
When I look back at this first year, I don't only see the things I wrote. I see the person I was becoming while I wrote them. There are pieces of me scattered throughout these pages. The woman learning to trust her own voice. The seeker who still has more questions than answers. The storyteller returning to memories she once thought she had left behind. The person learning that healing doesn't always mean forgetting what happened—it can also mean discovering what we can create from what remains. Perhaps that is what I want to carry with me into Year Two. Not certainty, or not a perfectly mapped path. Curiosity, courage, wonder, and the willingness to keep following the small lights that appear along the way.
This next year holds things I once only allowed myself to imagine. There are stories I haven't told yet, places we haven't wandered, questions we haven't asked, and dreams that have been quietly taking shape beyond these pages. Some of them are closer than you might think. But for now, I want to stay here for just a moment longer. At the end of the first year. At the beginning of the second. At another one of those strange, beautiful thresholds I seem to find myself writing about over and over.
Again, thank you for reading, thank you for returning, thank you for giving these words somewhere to land, and thank you for helping turn this little candlelit corner of the internet into something that feels like home. The candle we lit a year ago is still burning. Only now, its glow reaches a little farther. Here's to Year Two, and to whatever is waiting on the other side of the door.
